Q. How can I wash with cold, ozonated water and still sterilize my laundry?

A. Ozone works 3,000 times faster at destroying bacteria than chlorine bleach. Also, commercial laundry facilities report their sheets and linens feel like new when washed in ozonated water.

Q. How long does it take for ozone to kill bacteria?

A. While ozone kills bacteria on contact, the speed at which ozone neutralizes bacteria is dependent upon the type of bacteria, virus, cyst or other microbiological contaminant present, dissolved ozone concentrations and the organic load in the water. All Faraday systems are engineered to provide dissolved ozone concentrations in a range of 1.5 to 3.0ppm to the wash wheel. This high level of dissolved ozone is clearly in excess of the minimums required to inactivate all microbiological activity. The required contact times with high levels of dissolved ozone are reduced to fractions of a second for most organisms as specified by EPA regulations for the certification of drinking water.

Q. Would dissolved ozone levels higher than 1.0 ppm damage my linens, e.g. cause color fading?

A. Because Quanju Ozone Laundry Systems dissolve ozone into the water apart from the washing machines (rather than simply bubbling it into the washer) the risk of damage to linens is virtually eliminated. Dissolved ozone comes into the washers thoroughly mixed in the water preventing any ‘hot spots’ of concentrated ozone. Tests have shown that whites and colors can safely be washed together at 2.5 ppm with no damage. How ozone helps in waste water treatment ?

1. Color Removal- Surface waters are generally colored by natural organic materials such as humic, fulvic and tannic acids. These compounds result from the decay of vegetative materials and are generally related to condensation products of phenol like compounds; they have conjugated carbon/carbon double bonds. When the series of double bonds extend upwards of twenty, the color absorption shows up in the visible spectrum. Ozone is attracted to break organic double bonds. As more of these double bonds are eliminated, the color disappears. Surface water can usually be decolorized when treated with 2 to 4 ppm of Ozone.

2. Removal of Heavy Metals- Ozone oxidizes the transition metals to their higher oxidation state in which they usually form less soluble oxides, easy to separate by filtration. e.g. iron is usually in the ferrous state when it is dissolved in water. With ozone it yields ferric iron, further oxidized in water to Ferric Hydroxide that is very insoluble and precipitates out for filtration. Other metals: Arsenic (in presence of Iron), Cadmium, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Manganese, Nickel, Zinc- can be treated in a similar way. At Ozone levels above 4 ppm however, Manganese will form soluble permanganate, showing up as a pink color.

3.Algae Removal- Ozonation of a water contaminated with Algae oxidizes and floats the Algae to the top of the reservoir. The ozone will also oxidize the metabolic by- products of the Algae and remove the undesirable odor and taste.
