Tilmicosin 20%

Pharmacology & pharmacodynamics:

Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the macrolide group, and is believed to affect bacterial protein synthesis. It is bacteriostatic but at high concentrations it may be bactericidal.

Tilmicosin has an in-vitro antibacterial spectrum that is predominantly Gram-positive with activity against certain Gram-negative micro-organisms. Activity against several mycoplasma species has also been demonstrated.

Indications :

LORICAN is indicated for the treatment of outbreaks of pneumonia in weaned fattening pigs, caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Pasteurella multocidaand other organisms sensitive to tilmicosin.

Dosage and administration:

For the treatment of pneumonia, administer in the feed at 200-400g Tilmicosin activity per tonne for a period of 15 days. This provides a dose rate of 8 – 24 mg/kg bodyweight, and is achieved by the incorporation of 1~2 kg LORICAN per tonne of feed.

To ensure thorough dispersion of the product it should first be mixed with a suitable quantity time-period at a temperature not exceeding 75°C.

Precausions:

*Do not allow horses or other equines access to feeds containing tilmicosin.

*Not to be incorporated into feeds containing Bentonite.

Withdrawal periods

Pig tissues - 14 days

Shelf life

Two years.

This product will remain stable in the finished feed for 1 month.  

Storage

Store in a dry place; do not store above 25°C.

Pakaging

LORICAN is packed in multiwall kraft paper sacks with a low density polyethylene coating, each sack containing 5 or 10 kg of product. Not all pack sizes are marketed.
