Overview

Optical Protection Switches offers a feature-rich, versatile, fully managed system for optical protection switching. It is mainly used in protecting multi-sites in the local network. A wide input power range(-50dBm to +23dBm)as well as wavelength range(1310/1460 to 1620m)makes it  an ideal fit for digital and CATV applications, PDH,SDH linear protection system,DWDM,and electric communication system. As seen in the figure below, each single module contains a 50/50 splitter and 1x2 switch as well as three monitor photodiodes to enable full 1+1 protection of a bidirectional point-to-point system. Each monitor photodiode on the 1X2 switch is real-time monitoring the power from the working and protection paths. An alarm will be sent out to inform the network management when the power falls below a user-defined level, e.g., a laser in one of the transmitters fail. Moreover, protection switching will be automatically performed within 15ms if the power falls as a result of, e.g., a fiber break on the working path. The switching system can be set to revertive, non-revertive, forced and manual, allowing for complete operational flexibility.
