High-temperature inoxidizability: in oxidizing atmosphere, on the surface of the molybdenum disilicide made at high temperature, a compact quartz protective layer generates to prevent oxidation of MoSi2 to continue. When the component’s temperature is higher than 1700 °C, SiO2 protective layer with melting point 1710 °C would melt. Due to the role of surface tension, SiO2 melt together into drops, and lose protection. When the elements continue to be used in oxidizing atmosphere, SiO2 protective layer would regenerate. Should be noted that molybdenum disilicide heating element is not suitable for prolonged use in the range of 400-700 °C. Otherwise the elements would be powdered due to the strong low-temperature oxidation. |
