Gabion(also called heavy hexagonal, pinch spend net, Gabion network, three rear section Machine Network) is the cage which woven by a kind of angular Network (Hexagonal Wire Netting), and the diameter of wire used is based on the size of hexagon. If the coating of the wire is metal, the wire diameter generally is between 2.0 mm and 4.0 mm; and if it woven by PVC-coated metal wire, the general wire (metal) diameter is between 3.0mm and 4.5mm. Wire used on the edge is 1st larger than the hexagonal wire.

Gabions used with geotextiles are wire mesh boxes, containers or baskets filled with rock to prevent soil erosion and to retain/contain soil particles. Gabions and geotextiles used together reduce water velocities and re-capture river bed sediment in streams. Flat Gabions, called River or Reno Mattresses are widely used in river courses where soil erosion is a problem over a large flat area needing to be protected against soil loss or scour. They are used mostly in the civil engineering industry especially in the construction of roadway draining structures, however recently due to their environmental benefits are being used in many various applications and industries.
